WIN A ONE-WEEK RENTAL IN PROVENCE!

It is a great pleasure to announce our biggest giveaway ever: a one-week stay in this charming village home near Aix-en-Provence. Borrowing the first lines of the home's listing, I can tell you this place is unique:

LES BOUGAINVILLIERS, a splendid stone 'Village House', renovated by an imaginative French architect, was once used as a location in a French film…

And a little about its whereabouts…

St. Cannat has the PERFECT location for exploring Provence. You'll be just 15 minutes from Aix and in the center of all the other historic and beautiful places you'll want to visit: Avignon, Arles, St. Remy, Aix, Marseille, Cassis, the villages of the Luberon, St. Tropez, and perhaps on to Nice and Monaco.

For this giveaway, the winner may choose between two calendar periods–both lovely times to stay in Provence!:  August 22 – 29 OR November 7 – 14.

  1. A month in Provence, because the thought of being there for an entire month sounds like a dream come true!

  3. I loved what Jan from Maine had to say. This place sounds idyllic. I have visited France as a backpacker when I was young, but have always dreamed of staying in Provence. I feel that I’d never want to leave!

  5. In 2008 we spent a wonderful four days touring Provence during a three week driving vacation through France. We fell in love with Provence and it is our dream to return for a longer vacation to experience more of this beautiful and intriguing area. There is so much to see, to experience, to taste and to appreciate. The photos of the villa I enjoyed most were of the kitchen and the garden as they reminded me of what is typically the charm of Provence.

  7. Victoria from Brooklyn described the ideal place for a vacation for me. or actually, the ideal place to live. Quiet, country to explore, bread, wine, coffee nearby. What else do I need?

  11. My favorite review was from Victoria in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve spent some weeks in the tiny town of Durfort near Revel and loved it. This sounds like another wonderful place to stay in another lovely small town.

  13. Bonjour Kristin,
J’espère que je ne suis pas en retard . . . Le compte rendu que je préfère est celui de Sylvia à Camden, ME: “And yet walking through the quaint streets was a joy.” (And the owner response: to “walk through narrow lanes as the French have for centuries.”) Pour découvrir l’histoire de nos ancêstres dans un pays étranger, c’est pour moi un des grands plaisirs de la vie.
    Merci,
Lane Rosenthal (une américaine à Minneapolis qui étude le français)

  15. My favorite review was:
“Fantastic location!I don’t believe there’s a better spot from which to tour this part of Provence.”
I have been in love with all things French since I was 14 years old. I studied French in school from the time that I was 14 years old until I graduated from college at 21 years old. I have read every book on French history that I could get my hands on, as well as all the French literature I could acquire. My favorite saint in Ste. Jeanne la Pucelle. A week-long stay in Provence would be a dream come-true.

  19. I loved the “Great two weeks in Les Bougainvilliers!” review because I could just see myself walking to the shops, watching the sunsets, visiting the area and in particular immersing myself in the French I am trying to learn to speak not just read. The perfect French village.

  21. I liked Sylvia’ review – it gave me about feeling about the people one would deal with, but equally important, I can easily see us enjoying a walk in the village and the surrounding area.
    I can’t choose a room I like “best” – they’re all beautiful (even the lavatory !)

  23. I have a daughter who married a Parisian in 2012. This has changed our life in many ways but one of the positives is discovering France! After their wedding in Paris my husband and I traveled to Nice and loved it. It would be wonderful to win your week in Provence!

  27. The review by ‘Sylvia C. from Camden, Maine’ – her comment about ‘Buying the newspaper, delicious baguettes, and picking up the makings of dinner would take just a few minutes, which was the main reason why we chose a “village” home.’ Nailed that this is the ‘Village’ setting I’m looking for where I’d love to spend a few months when I retire in 4 1/2 years and after 3-4 more french classes. Also planning a few 1-3 week trips before then.

  29. Sylvia C’s review spoke to me; as a fellow Mainer, I share her appreciation for in contrast to our long, bleak winters. The house had me at the first photo: those doors opened invitingly, nudging me to take a look inside.

  31. Of lately I have missed my three grin children very much who live in far places from us, Mom and Dad. I have dreamed of a place to meet with all of them where we could be a large family and enjoy each other in a beautiful setting. This house is warm and friendly. It evokes an unpretentious atmosphere that is people friendly. There is nothing “not to like” about it. It is lovely!

  35. I liked the comments of the woman from Maine. I like the “French village” experience, away from the tourist destinations. Sounds wonderful.

  37. While all of the comments were enjoyable to read and made me want to pack my bags and go there right now, I thought that Victoria from Brooklyn provided a lot of helpful information not only about the home but about the area. As a French teacher, I would very much enjoy and benefit from spending time in this wonderful environment and renew my exposure to French language and culture. Ce serait enivrant! Bonne chance à tous!

Because I live in Brunswick, Maine ( an hour from Camden) I was drawn to the review from Maine. The gîte looks beautiful and a week there would be heaven. Thanks so much for this opportunity.

  45. I liked Sylvia’s comment because it reminded me of the time long ago that my husband and I lived in France for 2 years, living on the local economy, shopping in the shops, etc. We were newlyweds, and it was a wonderful time. We’ve now been married 50 years! Thank you for your e-mails. They remind me of that time, too, and they keep me working on my French! (My group has been meeting weekly to converse in French for 25 years.)
