  1. Hi, Kristin

You may not be aware that WhatsApp is a part of the META organization owned by Mark Zuckerberg. It is consciously kowtowing to the Trump Administration and willingly giving personal information to the government. As a result, activists like me are boycotting all things META including WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

An alternative to WhatsApp is Signal which is a nonprofit and has publicly stated it will not participate in Trump’s witch hunts.

An alternative to Facebook is BlueSky though it is somewhat fledgling.

These are difficult times. Please consider any alternatives you can. Otherwise good luck with your talk!

  2. I like the WhatsApp feature. I have been using WhatsApp for some time to chat with friends, but I was not aware of this blog type feature. I had no problems with your link to “Follow” you, but after setting it up, I did have to do some work to find it the next time. For some strange reason, channels you are following appear under the “Update” tab. Perhaps you might pass that along to your other many readers and followers.

    Keep up the good stuff!

    1. Hi David,

I’m so glad you found the link worked smoothly! And thank you for pointing out that little quirk — yes, WhatsApp puts channels under the “Updates” tab (instead of “Chats”), which can make them tricky to find the first time.

I’ll definitely pass this tip along to other readers, as I’m sure many will wonder where their channel went after following. I really appreciate you sharing your experience.

Merci beaucoup for your kind words and encouragement — it means a lot!

  5. Hello Kristi,

I\’ve been a long time follower of you from the west coast of Canada, Vancouver Island to be exact. I was heading over to the south of France 15 years ago with friends to visit a mutual friend living near Vaison-la-Romaine. An academic friend of mine suggested that I follow you to learn some words before departing. Growing up with public school French (even in Canada) did not afford me the ability to parlai en Francais…. as you can tell!

So, last week when reading the wonderful postings by your daughter Jackie, I thought it was time to make a donation. I wanted you to know that sadly the transaction did not go through as expected and unfortunately someone was able to access the details of my Visa card. It\’s all fine and my card has been cancelled …. so don\’t worry but I wanted you to know this in case it has happened to others as well. In the end I wasn\’t able to make the donation that I wanted but I\’d like to try again. What method do you suggest? I\’m reluctant to use my new Visa card but maybe PayPal? I haven\’t used that in ages so I\’ll have to see if that is something I need to set up and can just use as a one off.

Thank you for your wonderful stories of life as an English speaking woman living in France. I\’ve really enjoyed them over the years. I especially loved the stories of your dogs Smoky and Baise (did I get that right?) and the look of his tongue forever hanging from his mouth. What a scare that must have been. So glad that he survived.

Keep up the great work. It\’s good that you\’ve passed on the love of writing to Jackie and I look forward to hearing her tales from NYC. Interesting eh, that she should do the reverse of you. I guess the apple doesn\’t fall from the tree.

All the best, Karen WP from Victoria, BC
