A DAY IN A FRENCH LIFE by Kristi Espinasse
My husband travels to the US every spring for his wine business. I usually stay in France to watch after les gosses, les chiens, and le vignoble, but now that our situation has changed there is leeway to get out and explore.
One place I wanted to discover is the area in which our daughter has been living and working: in and around Vail, Colorado. This wish turned into un but to reunite with other family members and I'm happy to say I'll now get to see mon père and my two soeurs, and une tante and un oncle of ours.
Next, there was an itch to meet up with friends and readers in the area, and just as I began to wonder how to make this happen… I received an email from one of Jean-Marc's importers, Zach, whose wife happens to have a bookshop in Edwards!
Talk about la sérendipité!
Mille mercis to Nicole of The Bookworm of Edwards for organizing a wine tasting/book signing event for Jean-Marc and me. We appreciate the chance to gather with locals in this beautiful café-librairie!
Coincidentally, I was in this bookstore last fall… having coffee with my sister and a few friends. And even though I didn't voice my thoughts (I wish my books were on these shelves!) The Patron Saint of Bookshops must've been listening!
Now if that Patron Saint would go POOF! and you all could be there with us March 10th….

Did you know that the word comes from a Persian story. The King of Serendip (the old name for Ceylon, which is the old name for Sri Lanka) sent his three sons away from the kingdom to make their way in the world and prove they hadn’t been mollycoddled. They had all sorts of adventures during which they displayed wisdom and deductive ability and made chance discoveries.
I wish I could be there! I’d love to be on vacation, spend time in a lovely bookstore and café meeting new friends (one of who seems like an old friend I’ve just never met yet :), and maybe hunt for a job and a place to live. I need a change … but haven’t yet figured out where to go!
I wish you a bon voyage and a great time in Edwards, Kristi and Jean-Marc. Such a beautiful area of our country. BUT, no wine visit is complete with out Napa Valley! Come to our wine region. Bookmine in downtown Napa and Copperfield’s in Calistoga would be great places for you to meet and greet and sip, and .

Remembering our “meet-up” in Phoenix a couple year ago, I highly recommend that anyone in the Edwards area go to this event! Taste the great wine and do a “shake ‘n howdy” and/or a “faire la bise” with Kristi and Jean Marc!

What a dream opportunity! You will have a wonderful time!! I love the look of that bookstore!! Bookstores have almost all disappeared in the San Fernando Valley -it’s so heavenly to find one!! The last bookstore I was in was Shakespeare and Co in August! Thinking how can I get to Edwards by March 10!! :). Have a wonderful time!

Unfortunately, Colorado is too far away for me to attend, though I’d love to see the Edwards Bookworm.
Will both of you, or Jean-Marc perhaps on a separate wine-promoting trip, be anywhere near Washington, D.C. this year? “Near” could be even 50 miles away, which is do-able in terms of possibly being able to be present at a wine-tasting. I’ve been to a few in Washington and area suburbs, but not for a while.

Thanks for checking in, Marianne. No, there are no plans to be on the East coast this spring. If anything changes…if we (or Jean-Marc) make it over in the autumn…I will let you know.
Several years ago we visited MacArthur Beverages in Washington DC to purchase some Rouge Bleu wines. The fellow who helped us talked about Jean Marc holding a wine tasting there and raved about what a gentleman and great guy Jean Marc was. We had recently returned from the Normandy wine cruise and could only stand there nodding and smiling. That shop will mail wines and we have had JM’s wine sent to us on several occasions. Jean Marc’s efforts seem to be long standing. Bravo!
